"Mary had a little lamb,
His fleece was white as snow,
And everywhere that Mary went,
The lamb was sure to go.
He followed her to school one day,
Which was against the rule,
It made the children laugh and play
To see a lamb at school.
And so the teacher turned it out,
But still it lingered near,
And waited patiently about,
Till Mary did appear.
'Why does the lamb love Mary so?'
The eager children cry.
'Why, Mary loves the lamb, you know.'
The teacher did reply."

Oh, to be that Mary. And this is where you start to call the nice people in the white coats to take me away on the special bus, right? Sure, that may be a good idea at some point in my life. But, before you tell Siri to dial that number for you, let me explain.
There's Someone who is called a Lamb who I hope I do/will take to school and life with me every day. Still confused? Let me lay it out for those who need that extra help. (It's ok, I don't judge much. It's late.) I hope to daily involve Christ in my everyday decisions, and bring Him everywhere with me and that includes school.
Ok, now am I making more sense? Now, before you continue on with your super exciting lives, bear with me for a little longer, I would like to clarify further. There's so much rich metaphor in this children's song. However, since I don't want to write a whole book in this first post, and lose the attention span of an ADD nation, I shall keep it down to the first stanza for now.
"Mary had a little lamb/It's fleece was white as snow/And everywhere that Mary went/The Lamb was sure to go."
Um, wow. If the allegory in this song was a person it would be slapping you in the face yelling, "Here I am!" Ok, so Jesus is described as the Lamb of God. Fully human, but fully God. I know, confusing, but also also a great and beautiful mystery. The amazing thing about Him being God is that He could not sin. Yes, that's right folks, His fleece was white as snow. And if I decide to fully accept Christ and believe that He didn't just die, but was also raised from the dead, then He gives me this wonderful thing called the Holy Spirit. Which is also just another facet of God, which is just another part of Jesus. (Just roll with it, kids.) That Holy Spirit should go with me everywhere. In fact, it is sure to go where I (Mary) go. Why do I so often forget this? Why do I so often cloud that small, certain and wise voice with the white noise of everyday traffic? I want to be that Mary that parades around with her Lamb for the world to see. Unashamed. Unabashed. Unmoved by the world's taunts. What if we all lived that way? Crazy thought, right?
My goal for this blog is to tell you about my attempts to bring the Lamb with me wherever I go. I don't know if anyone will be interested, or if anyone will read, but I like to write, and I hope to keep a chronicle of my unadventures to look back on. So, I'm afraid that you will have to put up with my annoying posting for now at least. Feel free to give input. Constructive criticism given lovingly is always welcome.
I know these musings are not really new or exciting, but sometimes we all need to stop and think about those old, dull, heard-them-a-thousand-times-please-stop-talking-now sayings. Or rhymes. It might get you somewhere unexpected.
Fun fact: Mary Had a Little Lamb was the very first thing that Thomas Edison ever recorded on his phonograph.
